We have a number of Special Events coming up this weekend and your help in setting up, meeting and greeting the public and or operating/logging, would really be appreciated, so please let us know if you can spare some time. I know that it is not always convenient when we have to set up on a weekday but this is a job that can’t always be done on the day of the event when members of the public are around.
Saturday May 12th - GX6LD - Golcar Lily Day from the brewery in Golcar. We will be erecting antennas and putting the station together on Friday morning at 1000, it should only take a couple of hours and then we will be operating from about 0900 on Saturday morning. The address is: Golcar Brewery, Swallow Lane, Golcar, Huddersfield, HD7 4HT www.golcarbrewery.co.uk
Saturday and Sunday May 12th/13th - GB2TMI - Mills on the Air from Thwaite Mills, Stourton near Leeds which this year is a joint venture with NWRC. Set up antennas Friday afternoon from about 1400, Gerald G3SDY is going over and would appreciate some help. Brian M0GDJ and G0BFJ will be operating on Saturday and Gerald on Sunday, together with members of NWRC, but everyone welcome of course.
Saturday 9th June - GB2HS - Honley Show set up antennas/tent Friday afternoon about 1200 ready for early start on the Saturday morning, full details to follow a bit nearer the time.
We look forward to seeing you at the above events or working you on the air.

May 16th - we will be taking part in the popular RSGB 80m Club Calls Contest from the Pie Hall using DATA mode. Gerald G3SDY will be demonstrating how it’s done using the new Kenwood TS-590S and members will be encouraged to have a go themselves. Whilst some of our members take part in the SSB and CW events we don’t have any entrants in the DATA section, so we hope this might encourage a few more to perhaps have a go.
The contest starts at 8.00pm local time and finishes at 9.30pm so do come along and support our efforts in the contest, it should be an interesting session and will add to our overall points score.

12th May - Thwaites Mill, Mills on the Air weekend
Brian G0BFJ, Brian M0GDJ, Gerald G3SDY and members of NWRC operated GB2TMI over the weekend of Mills on the Air from Thwaite Mills, Nr Leeds. Here is a short video which I'm fairly sure has been put together by NWRC, it's really good and well worth a watch!

12th May - Golcar Lilly Day
Members of DDARS enjoyed operating GX6LD from Golcar Lily Day last Saturday. We had lots of visitors including Andy M1LOL and Ray M1REK both from Stockport ARC, Fred M3CTW and Jim Fish G4MH, always a welcome visitor at this event.
We used the Icom IC-706MKIIG with dipoles for 40m and 20m and although band conditions were extremely poor we still managed to work 97 stations mainly on 40m, although Robert M0PIE did venture onto 2m using CW.
The sun shone all day which brought the crowds out in numbers and we were treated to Morris Dancing, brass band and lots of other trade stalls and attractions. By the way we were operating from Golcar Brewery which must be one of the best QTH’s ever and we rounded of a most enjoyable day with a few glasses of the local bitter.

2nd May - Standedge Tunnel
On Wednesday 2nd May at 8.00pm Terry Sigsworth of British Waterways gave us an illustrated talk on the history of the Standedge Tunnel and Huddersfield Narrow Canal.
The tunnel was opened in April 1811 and DDARS operated GB200HNC to celebrate the 200th anniversary of its opening during 2011.
Terry works on the canal and had a wealth of informative and interesting stories to tell us in what was a most enjoyable evening for both radio and canal enthusiasts alike.

Talk about Castle Hill, April '12

|
We had another bumper turnout of over 26 members and guests who enjoyed an interesting and informative talk by Julian Brown the Kirklees Castle Hill Ranger on the history of Castle Hill and Victoria Tower.
Julian’s talk covered the early history of the site going back 4000 years, the opening of Victoria Tower in 1899 and the links that have been forged in recent years with lots of the towns civic societies and groups.
Victoria Tower is open for visitors throughout the year and it’s increase in popularity as a major historic attraction were illustrated with the continued increase in visitor numbers.

DDARS wins RSGB Region 4 Club of the Year 2011.
Picture shows our president Lew G4HKY receiving the trophy from Lee Marsh from the sponsors LAM Communications, with Harold Scrivens G0UGE, RSGB Regional Manager looking on.
We now go forward to the National final which will take place at the RSGB AGM on Saturday April 21st
Thank you for attending our auction last night, we had a fantastic turnout of 54 members and visitors and you all contributed to making the evening such a success. Some of the proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Search and Rescue Dog Association, SARDA, the rest going to club funds.
Special thanks to LAM Communications for donating our raffle prize, Harold G0UGE, RSGB and the sponsors LAM for the Region 4 Club of the Year trophy, Jim G3YDL for the superb Pie and Pea supper and to the cub members for running the auction.
Brian G0BFJ was most surprised and delighted to receive the 'Lamco Golden Mic' award 2012' from Lee, this was in recognition of his efforts in the WAB net which is held most mornings, we are sure that this will prove to be a very popular award once the word gets round.

|
The club chairman and secretary are happy to get their hands on the new HF rig shown here being handed over by Lee of LAM Communications at the Northern Cross Rally at Wakefied.
The new Kenwood TS590 is to replace the Yaesu FT1000MP which has given good service for many years. We are looking forward to using it on contests and special event stations.
