One way to mark the year would be for DDARS to really make an impact in the ever popular RSGB 80m Club Calls Contest which can be entered using your own call-sign during early evenings on weekdays between February and July.
The contest only lasts for an hour and a half and each month a date is allocated for SSB, CW and Data modes. Entries are submitted via the RSGB contest robot in Cabrillo format and contest exchanges are 59(599) followed by an incremental serial number starting 001.
Most computer logs have a contest facility and one of the more popular is SD which can be downloaded for free.
Full details of the contest, rules and tables can be seen on the RSGB web under Radio Sport.
DDARS members have participated during the past few years but recently it seems to have been less popular so it would be great if we could perhaps give it a real go in our Ruby year.
You don’t have to be an experienced contester and if you fancy CW there is a QRS frequency allocated to slower speed operators. Even if you don’t operate every month or only spend a short time participating your points will count towards DDARS total score.
If you haven’t taken part before and fancy having a go and you want to know more please get in touch with me m0rbg@talktalk.net

First Aid Course
Last year we were invited by Mirfield ATC to take part in a Heart Start first aid course and many of our members participated in what was an excellent event and a most enjoyable evening. The course was so popular that we have decided to run it once again with Jim G3YDL at the helm. Health and Safety is an important part of our hobby and if someone had an accident or was feeling unwell at one of our meetings or special events, would you know what to do to help them? Well here is a chance for all of us to find out, or refresh our skills on Wednesday May 22nd (7.00pm for 7.15pm start time) by taking part in a first aid course which includes CPR procedures and typical examples of electrical related incidents and treatments, very relevant to amateur radio. Here are all the details of the course and the location of the Air Training Corps in Mirfield.
Please let Jim G3YDL know if you are going to attend: g3ydl#ntlworld.com (replace the # with @).
First Aid Course
The first aid training that people will be undertaking will involve the C.P.R. procedure and Recovery together with all the associated training and instruction, together with how to treat bleeding and burns. We will arrange another course to cover the full Heart Start programme at a later date yet to be confirmed.
Instructors Lionel and Jim will be running the course and they will be joined by more instructors to get people through the training by the end of the night, we look forward to seeing as many members as possible and hope that you will enjoy the evening. We will have a tea break at the half way point

LAM Communications Ltd
LAMCO are currently organising 'The LAMFEST HAM Radio Rally' in aid of Cancer Research'. This event will be supported by the following organisations Icom UK, Kenwood Communications and Yaesu UK.
This rally will take place on Sunday 23rd June 2013 at Elsecar Heritage Centre inside Building 21 , located 2.2 miles from LAM Communications Ltd. The event will be open from 1000hrs until 1600hrs.
Lee has asked if DDARS members will run the talk-in station (LAM will provide radio & antenna) from about 08:30 and also have a couple of tables to publicise DDARS and sell any of the clubs surplus equipment.
It is a most worthwhile charity event and although it might seem some way off we do need to be sure that we have enough volunteers to man our stall and operate the talk-in station.
This is one event where everyone can help out, whether you are licensed or not and it’s sure to be a great rally supported by the leading manufacturers of amateur radio equipment.
Chris G8PUT is coordinating our activities so please let him know as soon as possible if you are able to help: email Chris g8put@g8put.com
